The Sahni Family

In May 2022, at age 2, Diyara Sahni was diagnosed with high risk Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. While she received treatment in India, her home country, Diyara was advised to enroll in a clinical trial to improve her chances of survival which was halfway around the world in Charlotte, North Carolina. Though they were uncertain about the treatment plan and expenses, Diyara’s family took a leap of faith. They arrived in Charlotte in May 2023. Diyara’s care team at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital recommended her family stay with RMHC of GC.

“The memory of stepping into RMHC of GC for the first time is deeply etched in our minds. We walked through the doors with a bit of trepidation. But that soon faded when we were welcomed with a WARM smile and felt like we were entering a house that reverberated with KINDNESS and COMPASSION.”, shared Diyara’s mother, Karishma.

Diyara and her family stayed with us for 30 nights during her first treatment. Diyara returns to Charlotte for her clinical trail for 2 years, coming every 3 months for the first 6 months, and then every 6 months after that.. Thanks to the world-class healthcare she received, made accessible by her free accommodations at RMHC of GC, The Sahni’s are among the RMHC of GC serves every year. In 2023, over 3,000 families have already participated in RMHC of GC’s House and Hospital programs. Hundreds of families across the state, country, and world have stayed with us for a total of 6,000 nights and counting.

“We believe RMHC of GC’s tagline should be ‘keeping all families close.’ Regardless of nationality or background, you embrace everyone. For families like ours, coming from afar, it’s far more than a place to stay. It’s the humanity, warmth, and kindness that we’ve got to experience that makes this place truly special.” – Karishma, Diyara’s mother.
