CONTSTRUCTION UPDATE – January 2026 – Serve More Families!

We are thrilled to share that our House renovations and expansion are officially complete! This incredible transformation would not have been possible without the generous supporters, partners, and champions who believed in our mission and helped bring these new guest spaces to life. With these additional spaces even more families will find comfort, care, and a true home-away-from-home when they need it most. Be on the lookout for an invitation to our Winter Open House! Pardon Our Dust: Renovations to Current RMHC House

Dear Friends,

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte, we believe that home is more than a place — it’s a feeling of comfort, connection, and care during the most challenging times. Today, I am deeply honored to share an exciting step forward in how we deliver on that promise.

Over the coming months, the House you know — and so many families have called home — will begin to evolve. These changes are not simply about bricks and mortar. They are about love, resilience, and the unwavering belief that we can always do more for the families who walk through our doors.

Guided by months of thoughtful planning, collaboration, and compassion, our Board of Directors has approved a bold restructuring of our House’s current footprint. Why? Because the need is greater than ever. Since 2021, our waiting list of families in crisis has grown significantly — a clear call to action we could not ignore.

With these enhancements, we will be able to welcome at least 80 more families each year — offering them not just a room, but a refuge. By reimagining and repurposing key areas of our House, we will provide greater comfort, improved functionality, and more of the compassionate care that defines who we are.

This is more than a renovation. It is a reaffirmation of our mission — and a commitment to grow with the families we serve.

Thank you for walking this journey with us. Together, we are building a stronger House — and an even stronger community of hope. Please see the details of the renovation below:

  • Guest Rooms: Four (4) New Guest Rooms Added!
    • Two (2) large guest rooms will be added to the second floor in the open outdoor space above the main entrance awning.
    • Two (2) suites (Guest Rooms 208 & 308) will be reconfigured to add two extra short stay rooms for families who only need our services for a few days.
  • Living Room: Family Support Center
    • A portion of the living room will be converted into an area to better meet our families’ needs. This comfortable area will now allow families to meet confidently with our Family Services Staff.
      • We were honored to name this space after one of our founders, Dr. Edward S. Baum, which was announced at our Hearts & Hands Celebration.
  • Basement: Expanded Staff Office Space
    • The staff space in our basement will transform to add more workable areas for our growing Advancement Team.

These important projects will cause a few interruptions. As we are moving through the construction process, we ask that you be aware of the following changes:

  • New Main Entrance: Building Access
    • The main entrance will be CLOSED until the construction process is completed.
    • To access the building, guest families, volunteers, deliveries, and visitors must use the middle rear door (doors facing the back parking lot).
    • Please ring the doorbell on the middle door to gain entrance.
  • Check In: Front Desk
    • Front desk operations have moved to the dining room area.
    • Please check in or see the front desk volunteer/staff member when you enter the House.
  • Parking: Guests, Volunteers & Visitors  
    • Parking behind the House is reserved for Guest Families ONLY.
    • Volunteers and visitors will use the parking lot to the left side of the House.
      • If you have a large donation or need to drop off items, please pull around back, drop off items, then move your car to the side parking lot.
      • Please use caution when accessing the parking lot behind the House, as our driveway is now down to one lane.
