Stay With Us

The Ronald McDonald House offers families a welcoming place to stay while their child receives medical care, with accommodations available for both short-term and longer stays. Guest room requests are based on the length of stay needed. A referral from a hospital partner is required for all stays. Families staying more than five (5) nights will be placed on a wait list. Families needing a short-term stay of five (5) nights or fewer are able to make reservations based on availability. No matter the length of stay, we are here to help keep families close during a challenging time.

Who Can Stay

The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte is a 32-bedroom, 36,000 square foot home-away-from-home for families that have children who are receiving treatment in area medical facilities. To complete the registration process to stay at the House, your family must meet the following criteria: 

• The patient must be younger than 22 years of age.
• The family must live at least 20 miles away from our facility (1613 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC).
• All guests over 18 years of age must complete a background check.
• Patients must be referred by a treating medical facility staff member.
• Patients must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian:
  • A parent who is a minor (under the age of 18) will not be eligible to stay at RMHC of GC unless they are accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or an adult who has been approved, with written and notarized consent by the minor’s parent or legal guardian who has accepted responsibility for the minor. Exceptions to this policy are applied to Emancipated Minors. Legal verification of one’s status must be provided, i.e. marriage license, court order, military orders. 
  • Only primary caregivers, siblings, and immediate family members who are necessary to help care for the patient and/or siblings will be eligible to stay at RMHC of GC.
• Patients must be receiving active treatment at a local medical facility, including inpatient treatment or outpatient treatment- defined by a minimum of 2 appointments a week for an ongoing stay. Families may check in one day before the first appointment and may check out one day after the last appointment/discharge.
• Families must use the room at least once every 24 hours.
• A member of the Family Services team will meet with the families and referral agency every 14 days to determine ongoing eligibility.

A patient and their family WILL NOT be eligible to stay if:

• There are any active or open cases with the Department of Social Services (DSS) or Child Protective Services (CPS).
• Any guest over the age of 18 does not meet the background check requirements.
• Any person is under the influence of non-prescribed drugs and/or alcohol or is currently participating in a drug treatment program.

RMHC of GC will make a reasonable effort to accommodate referrals that comply with these guidelines. However, RMHC of GC reserves the right to determine a family’s eligibility to stay at RMHC of GC facilities and reserves the right to determine the priority of placement. Families that are no longer eligible to stay at RMHC of GC will be referred back to the referring age
