Jenna and Wyatt Sippy had been waiting to adopt for 5 long years, waiting to welcome a child into their family. During that time, they experienced the joy of becoming parents when their first child, Everly, entered their lives. They dreamed of expanding their family through adoption, giving Everly a sibling.
Then, in September of 2023, the call they had waited so long for finally came. Their adoption agency reached out with incredible news: a local mother had chosen them to be the adoptive family for her son. But there was a twist. Baby Asher was born premature, weighing 1 pound and 10 ounces, and his future was uncertain. Despite the challenges, the Sippys felt an undeniable connection to Asher. They knew, deep down, that he was meant to be part of their family.
Without hesitation, Jenna, Wyatt, and little Everly hit pause on their lives and set out on a journey to Charlotte, two hours away from home in Leesville, South Carolina, to be by Asher’s side. They arrived at the hospital, where they were encouraged to stay at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Charlotte. “I thought it was just a place to stay,” Jenna recalled, reflecting on the unexpected warmth they found there. “But it really became family, it became our home for 164 days.”
As they settled into their new routine at RMHC of Greater Charlotte, the Sippys created a cozy life amidst the uncertainty. They welcomed visits from grandparents, who helped care for Everly, and shared meals in the dining room, finding comfort in the camaraderie of other families facing similar challenges. Jenna even managed to work from home in the upstairs library, carving out a slice of normalcy. Wyatt expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “Having meals provided for you every single day and activities for our daughter made all the difference. I don’t know what we would have done without it. We met some amazing people during our stay.”
As the days turned into weeks, little Asher grew stronger, defying the odds and proving to be a fighter. The moment they had all been waiting for finally arrived, and the Sippy family was able to bring their precious son home. Thanks to RMHC of GC’s programming, they saved over $20,000 in expenses.
